Julia Nixon Sings The Music of Burt Bacherach and Hal David

Julia Nixon Sings The Music of Burt Bacherach& Hal David, The Hamilton 600 14th St. NW, Washington, DC

Newmyer Flyer Presents

Julia Nixon Sings The Music of Burt Bacharach & Hal David

With the Dave Ylvisaker Dozen

Saturday April 22nd at The Hamilton at 8 pm

Here is the link for show info & tickets

The brilliant songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote more than 50 Top 40 hits between 1960-70 for artists like

Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, Jerry Butler, Aretha Franklin, Chuck Jackson,

The Carpenters, & The Stylistics among others.

The hits included I Say a Little Prayer, Alfie, Walk On By, Do you Know The Way To San Jose,

Promises, Promises, Make It Easy On Yourself, I'll Never Fall In Love Again, The Look of Love,

Always Something There to Remind Me and You'll Never Get To Heaven If You Break My Heart & many more.

Its rare to hear an entire show of Bacharach-David songs performed live, for despite their

enormous familiarity and popularity, the music is deceptively complex and demanding.

Bacharachs sophisticated arrangements also included wonderful backing vocalists, horns and strings and the

April 22nd show will feature all of that as well. It's a magical sound when arrangements are this well conceived and lush.

Julia Nixon is a D.C. icon, best known for a fabled decade long residency at Mr Henrys, with "Julia & Company",

She appeared on Broadway in 'Dreamgirls' and is a Helen Hayes award winner for her work in

the Studio Theater production "Caroline or Change" .

If you would like to check out Julia's stunning vocals, here's a link to a

previous show we did together at Strathmore in 2010 when she sang Petula Clark's "Downtown"

Some of D.C's finest musicians will also be part of The Dave Ylvisaker Dozen, the band led by

Julia's longtime pianist & musical director. The group includes: Andy Hamburger, Chuck Underwood,

Scott Giambusso, Al Williams, Zack Smith, Deeme Katson, Margot MacDonald, Nick Nixon,

Mike Mills, Elizabeth Lademan and Stephen Czarkowski.

This is your chance to hear the magnificent Bacharach-David songs sung by

a world class singer and brought to life by a dozen great musicians,

Grammy award winner and DC favorite son Jon Carroll opens!
